Two great Canadian talents - one of the country's most celebrated guitarists together with one of our most accomplished younger players.
In a decades long career, Jeffrey McFadden has performed widely in Canada, the United States and Europe. McFadden was the second prize winner in the 1992 Guitar Foundation of America competition, and was chosen to record the very first CD in the Naxos label's "Laureate" series as part of his competition prize. He has since made many other discs for Naxos, including recordings of works Agustin Barrios and American composer Terry Riley. McFadden has collaborated with such eminent musicians as Andrew Zohn, Robert Aiken, John Beckwith and R. Murray Schaeffer, and is currently lecturer in guitar at the University of Toronto. Originally from Vancouver, Michael Kolk now lives and teaches in Toronto. A graduate the U of T's Master of Music program, he became well-known for his duo performances with guitarist Drew Henderson. He has recorded two CDs with Henderson, and recently released Mosaic, an album of solo guitar music on the Atma label. As a duo, Jeffrey Mc Fadden and Michael Kolk have recorded Mauro Giuliani's arrangements of opera overtures by Rossini for a CD to be released on the Naxos label in November 2016.
"McFadden plays with a wonderfully clean and flexible technique, great sensitivity and a beautifully limpid tone." - Classic CD (UK)
"[Kolk] is one of the most musical guitarists performing and recording today." - This Is Classical Guitar (Canada)
