Distinguished Cuban Spanish guitarist Iliana Matos is a graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and of the Royal Music Conservatory in Madrid. In her youth she won prizes in eleven major competitions, including first prizes in the Andrés Segovia Competition and the prestigious S.A.R. La Infanta Doña Cristina International Competition. A champion of Ibero-American guitar music, Ms. Matos has performed extensively in Latin American, the United States, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Among her career highlights are an appearance as soloist with the National Orchestra of Oporto at the VIII Ibero-American Summit and a performance for the Spanish Royal Family in 1998. Angels in the Street, her CD of music by Eduardo Martin on San Francisco’s GSP label, was praised by American Record Guide as "a match-made-in-heaven recording that is about as perfect as guitar records get." A resident of Spain for twenty years, she has shared her musical insights as teacher at such institutions as the Conservatory of the Balearics, the Conservatory of Salamanca and the Royal Music Conservatory of Madrid.
"Her name deserves to go down in guitar history as one of the great players of our time." - Classical Guitar Magazine
